Shirley Birrell has been selling her work for over 30 years. For ten of those working as a designer maker, producing a series of complex 3D pieces from papier mache, which sold in shops and galleries throughout the uk.
Her illustrations are primarily mixed media, including watercolour, coloured pencil, ink, acrylic, collage and textiles, a number of which depict humorous animal characters.
In recent years her pet portraits have been increasingly in demand,as have her detailed plant and flower studies.
She has been teaching art and design/drawing and painting for a number of years at several further education colleges as well as running her own classes and is now offering painting holidays in the north west of England and Mallorca as well as selling her illustrations.
Shirley's work has been exhibited at Salford Art gallery, Cedar Farm, Mid Penine Arts, Norton Priory, Design Gap and British Craft Trade Fair to name just a few.
She has also run workshops in local schools sponsored by both Halton and Burnley Councils. |
